They don't. You can buy a u-joint to fit any Benz drive shaft, it's
a standard sized part. However, after the W108/109 chassis with
swing axles. they are straked into place, not held by clips as they
are not considered to ever need replacement short of driveshaft
damage, and they usually last as long as you want to drive the car.
Replacement requires a jib to strake them in place exactly centered
and for the shop doing the work to have the correct adapters to
correctly balance the shaft. Not a huge deal, but it will shake
horribly if you cannot balance it.
