There are 2 (at least) competing places in Philly for the "best"
cheesesteak. I ate at one of them, can't remember the name, it was
OK but nothing particularly special other than having eaten at the
place and not got yelled at for abridging protocol. Cheez-whiz is a
featured component of some of them, some other kind of artificial
substitute for pasteurized process cheese food product analog in
others.. I don't remember if that place had whiz or not. My son
will know the particulars if you are interested, or if Hen is going
there.

My wife, raised in Phiily, would argue that you can't get a decent
Phiily
Cheese Steak outside of Philly. We've tried for years, and they
always fall
short. The key is that the steak needs to be sliced paper thin
while still
partially frozen, then cooked on the griddle with the onions, the
cheese
thrown on and stirred in at the last minute. It is to be served on
an
Italian roll.
Oh, man... that sounds... soooo good.
The kindler gentler list member pdq from Philly always speaks of the
place in Philly where the only thing to be said when the Philly
Cheese
Steak is ordered is "wit" or "wit-out" Your clear explanation makes
it sound as if a person might be able to craft one of these
delicacies
at home? What type of cheese? What steak? I will need to discuss
this with my neighbor from Philly. You are awful - now, I'm hungry
all over again.
