Unloaded etc, they have to witness it going in the container (unloaded) and witness you LOCKING with a key-lock that no one else has a key to (TSA approved locks are NOT allowed)
Needless to say, those bags are NOT subject to hand inspection (and likely not lost). BTW I think a starter pistol still counts as a firearm and has to have the same caution taken...
