Thanks I will look at the Pinnacle Studio also.
So there would be no advantage to buying the Platinum on that website
with 8mm film? What is the Hollywood restoration stuff they have
listed there? I am confused as to what format I should be getting.
Platinum HD Process: 1080 HDV, HD-AVI (MJPG), ProRes 422 or DPX HD Files
Silver & Gold Process: AVI, MiniDV
I think I want something that I can just put in the DVD and watch and
also something that is compatible with video editing software like the
Pinnacle Studio you recommend. Being that the difference between the
Gold and Platinum is 9 cents paying that would actually give me peace
of mind that I got the best that’s available.
Thanks.. Douglas

Sorry for the slow reply as I'm on digest its annoying to reply from
my phone and we were at my parent's house for the holiday.
Anyway with that website I wouldn't got less than silver, notice that
bronze is not full frame. I don't think I'd bother with platinum,
we're talking 8mm right? The quality of 8mm is limited anyway, if it
were 16mm I'd consider it.
For editing since you're on a PC I'll recommend Pinnacle Studio, buy
whichever level you think you need, more money = more tools as with
most anything. I'm not just saying that because I work for the company
which in the spirit of full disclosure I do. Actually I work for the
parent company in the professional video division but whatever.
Cyberlink has been around for years and I've played with it and HATED
it. Studio gets really high rankings because its a real professional
video editor with a consumer product front end made by the consumer
video arm of a professional video company (Avid).

Thanks all for replying. I was looking on the web and found Video
Conversion
Experts. http://www.videoconversionexperts.com/index.html
They have a platinum service that is on sale for 0.36/ft. That is
frame by
frame transfer with restoration. What question should I ask when I
call them
Monday?
For the editing part I was thinking of buying this CyberLink
PowerDirector 9
Deluxe. But probably the $100 Ultra edition.
Thanks again
Douglas
