Oh, there have been others who have gone there. I cant remember
who but there is somebody on this list who did the replace #1 rod
deal on their 3.5. I know I am VERY glad to get this done so I
can move on to the next project. Now deciding on the next project
is another matter. I am sure though that there will be some small
issues that crop up with this car before its completely ironed out.

Subject: Re: [MBZ] 140 update
I think I am about ready to call it done, I got all the misc crap
such as covers and what not in the engine compartment. I think I
got that oil leak from the turbo return fixed. I used a prybar
and bent the tube a little bit so it seems straighter now. I did
run it up to operating temp yesterday and did start and run it
this morning to see if it was still leaking oil. A couple of
things I have observed. When stone cold it fires up and idles
smooth. After a minute with the afterglow turns off it does seem
to idle a little rougher and maybe miss on occasion and smoke
more. After a few minutes of this and the engine is warmed it
idles smooth again. Im hoping this is a condition that goes away
after the engine is run a bit and cleaned up. I used some JB weld
to plug up that broke off nipple on the main vacuum line, once it
sets up Im going to pull the car out of the garage and take it up
and down the street and see if she flys apart or not. I am quite
sure once I put the wife back in it something will blow up.

the brand new glow plug wiring harness arrived from Rusty
yesterday so today I put it on and put the intake etc back on
(made MUCH easier by my purchase of HF allen T wrenches. Still
no glow plug light. I stole the one off my 91 350SDL and it
glows and starts fine. I guess maybe the shorting out fried the
old relay. I tell you having never messed with pulling heads,
replacing rods etc I am sure nervous the whole thing will fly
apart. BTW, this is the engine I just replaced the #1 rod with
the updated heavier rod. Just from my observation I dont sense
any different vibrations even though the weight does not match
the other rods. Will see what time holds for it though.
