I even managed it in my '83 240D way back when I first got it ('03) and its 
been fine ever since. I vaguely remember an online tutorial with pics as you 
need to get the polarity right on the caps.

Open clock up and replace crappy Frako capacitors with decent ones.

The non-Frako capacitors in my mid-70's 114 clocks are still good.
I didn't replace them.  Pretty much every Frako electrolytic
in the later-model clocks has gone bad.
