Well, codes say that front heated O2 sensor is bad (new), as well as some of
the evaporative control valves (which have been bad for the last 100k
miles).  There's a couple of other codes I need to look up.  O2 sensor
should not cause the engine to die by itself.

According to the manual, the crank position sensor logic has a "fail safe"
limp home mode, so that probably isn't the problem either.

Some sort of sensor or coil that does not like getting hot.  Unless it 
has thrown a code it might be hard to figure out.  You could try 
jiggling various connectors to make sure nothing is lose.
