Well, MAF fails the diagnostic test, so I probably need to replace that, as well as one O2 sensor. There's a solenoid valve in the emissions system that the ECU says the circuit fails to work properly, but the valve passes the component test and the wiring harness has continuity and no short. Problem might be at the connector at the ECU, which has over 100 connections. Frustrating. Might be worth getting a scan tool so I can monitor the circuit while driving around to see if the fault is intermittent.
Cleaned and tightened the engine ground points and reseated all the associated connectors for the above. With just a little gas and at low RPM, engine is fine, but if you really step on it or rev too high, it bogs down and dies. I suspect an ignition problem, so I'm going to see if it has stored any codes in the ECU and also check the crankshaft position sensor. I've got the factory service manual, I'll dig into that as well. Anyone else have an idea? The good news is SWMBO is now forced to drive the E300. She's on an errand now, I'll ask for her opinion of the car once she gets back.
