My 94 S350 turbo leaks oil into the intake manifold if I use M-1
5w-40. Switching to 15w-50 essentially fixed the problem.

I have never been able to measure any detectable difference in oil consumption when using Mobil 5W-40 vs 15W-50 synthetics in any OM60x engine that was in GOOD condition (I've done this using 4 different 601, two different 602 and 1 603 engines). In one 601 where the front oil passage was directly open to the #1 cylinder from a head gasket failure, the use of 15W50 did slow the consumption of oil (almost halved it) from a qt in 200 to a qt in 400 miles. A new head gasket lowered consumption to a qt in about 3000 miles and that slowly improved to closer to a qt in 4-5kmi over 10-15kmi with either 5W-40 or 15W-50.

If switching from Mobil 1 5W-40 to 15W-50 makes a serious difference, then there is SOMETHING wrong with the engine. The 5W-40 wasn't at operating temp and the 15W-50 cold was it?
