I have lived in a lot of locations during my life - let's see, drop the places where I was too young to know much and we have
Aiken, SC,
Hampton,Va,
Baton Rouge, La,
Port Arthur Tx,
Hopewell, NJ,
Sommerville, SC,
Greenville, SC,
Chester, Va,
Oak Ridge Tn,
Bloomington,Ill,
Frostburg, Md and
back to Chester Va.

Of the areas I have lived, my favorites were (in no particular order) Hopewell NJ (not what I expected - it was a 1 stop light town) with no crime and just 2 policemen. Also liked Somerville SC, Greenville SC & Oak Ridge TN - all had the most wonderful people I have ever known and the country was beautiful although I didn't care for the heat of SC. Oak Ridge was fantastic. BTW, if it matters, there are more Phd's there than anywhere else or did at the time. Baton Rouge was also very hot (hot summers are not for me and BR was hot 11 months of the year.)

Chester Va is between Richmond and Petersburg - more history than you can shake a stick at and just a great little village. A wonderful place to live and raise a family - but that part is behind us now. Great medical resources (always important to seasoned citizens) and lots to do.

I put Port Arthur Tx in the same High heat bracket as SC and Baton Rouge. Bloomington Il was the worst place I ever lived and I could not wait to get away from there.

If I ever move again it will likely be farther into the Blue Ridge mountains - either in Western Va, W.VA, NC or Tenn - maybe Ky. Our family is here around Chester so we need to be able to see the kids and G'kids once in a while.

Good luck on your next location - I hope it will be all you want it to be.

A few years ago, we had a discussion of what it was like to live in
various parts of the United States, with listers chiming in with what they
liked about various areas.

With my application to John Brown University having fallen through and
having no response from my other college applications, I've begun to
consider what other parts of the country might be like. I have found a
job posting in Hanover, New Hampshire (not Dartmouth College). What's New
Hampshire like? I know Don Wills thinks Iowa is great, but don't recall
what others said about other areas of the country.

Can we have that conversation again, please?

Thanks,

Craig
