Wilton, et al.
An anecdote that you might like.
HRH D of E is a pilot ( fighters I think). When Saunders Roe was testing their
prototype SRN1 (Hovercraft) in Poole harbor Prince Phillip asked for ride.
The test pilot, the project manager and HRH were crammed into a small
cabin/cockpit for a slow buzz across the Harbor. He then asked, as a fully
qualified pilot, for a turn at the controls, which they granted. He had the
prototype zipping across the water at 60 plus mph, much to the consternation of
the others. They tactfully suggested that they had not done enough testing to
go that fast and would he please slow down!
HRH may be in the shadow of HRH Queen Elizabeth but he is always his own man.
