Some vacuum units are too strong for the relatively low vacuum needed for oil extraction; vent the vac hose as necessary to reduce/adjust vacuum in the receiver bucket.

Do you mean discharge the oil at bottom of oil receiver can? I would not; just provide adequate separation between oil discharge tube and vac tube/hose at top of oil receiver can so that any air in the system slows down enough to "drop" the oil without entering the vac tube/hose.

It helps if there is a vent of sorts between the shop vac and the collection vessel so that:

1. the vac gets plenty of air for cooling
2. The vessel doesn't collapse
3. Flow velocity is low enough to prevent oil blowing around in a hurricane.

Mitch.
