Yeah, I was poking fun at all of us, myself included. I try to keep the "sunday car" nice and the other half tries to keep her TD nice(with some help) With a fleet of aging MBs, I just can't keep up with all the little, non-critical things.

anal - maybe. BUT I decided NOT to have all the woodwork redone to remove cracks in the lacquer. I figure they'll just come back over time. BUT to compensate for leaving the cracks, I wanted to do something and the oozing, crusty, psoriatic, puss-like mirror REALLY annoys me and thought it would make things look nicer and not cost nearly as much as the woodwork...more nice for the buck.

Anyway, I'm sure my upcoming leather repair, seat re-springinging, Hella light upgrade and window tinting camapaign would REQUALIFY me as anal! One thing is that I only act this way towards the SD. The TD has 5 cracker munching, drink spilling kids in it, so I don't care and the 240D...well, that might DISQUALIFY me as anal forever.

My upcoming $100 VW diesel Golf purchase might "help" too.

I have never de-crusted mine. I believe leaving a crust around the edges
keeps any further crust from forming. Never tested the theory though. I
thought the catalyst reactivated when it was extremely hot though, not in
the winter. Heat would be in line with the little chemistry I learned.

Chris, maybe you are just too anal retentive. Chill, and use the mirror,
don't look at the edges!

If you do figger it out, let us know. I am not sure I want to spring for a
new mirror if that is the cure. I just gave up on trying to make 20 year
old cars look like now a long time ago.
