Quick and dirty "prime" is to remove the pressure cap, squeeze the upper radiator hose flat, then crimp the small vent line to the expansion tank shut and release the upper hose. This will pull coolant through the lower radiator hose and heater core back into the head. If you have a bubble, the level in the tank will go down and stay down.

Repeat, adding coolant as necessary, until the coolant just sloshes around and the expansion tank doesn't go empty. Fill to the middle line on the tank.

If you did not test the thermostat before you put it in, remember that occasionally you do get a dead one in the new box....
