The W stands for sedan/coupe. R for roadster, T for transporter (wagon) in the old notation system (starting in the early '90s everything went CRAZY). The is NO such thing as W123/124 wagon! It would be a 123/124 T, not a W123/124 T. I don't recall Mercedes ever making an "S" class wagon, but some of the independent coach makers MIGHT have made a few.
