All I've seen (since I've been surfing) have been all-electric,
no fuel engine at all. Big voltage/frequency converters is what
they are. My real question is how exactly it's designed. I
guess I'll find out, I did win that auction. Could have had
two, probably good that I didn't. For some reason my wife was
_not_ thrilled that I bought a new-it-was-$13k big green machine
for $125.
> Is that one for generating aircraft power?
Yeah, I think so. It's painted AF green, not Navy gray.
> Nearly all applications take 60Hz power and turn the 400Hz generator,
As does this one, I think. So my real question is whether or
not the 60 Hz machine is synchronous or induction. Induction
machines are much harder to turn into generators. And of course
the presence of extra shaft length will be crucial as well.
The 60 Hz machine is 220/440, so using it as a 120/240 generator
will be interesting as well.
Heck, at least I get a nice road trip out of it.
