We pulled a 20 ft trailer up it in 1970 with a Ford station wagon, and only had one flat on the trailer due to a piece of grader blade in the non-radial tire. Only thing to watch for was semi's going the other way at 70+, throwing up stones. The locals mentioned that if you slowed way down, the rocks would not break any glass, which turned out to be true. Seems it was your own car's speed through the rock shower that causes the damage! Following that advice, we made it undamaged all the way to Anchorage, where we promptly got zinged with a windshield rock hit on a paved road in town! By now, the Alcan has to be in a lot better shape, so almost any car (other than a Lotus or Ferarri, etc) should make it just fine.
