Put a used half-shaft in my brother's 300E today, cured the vibration
on the highway. Inner joint had some radial play and clicked, outer
joint freely extended in and out at least an inch, unlike the used one
we installed. My niece is working 40 miles form home, needs a car
that isn't going to toss an axle on her on the highway.
Also finally got around to installing new shocks on the rear of the
300D -- quite an improvement in ride with a great reduction in noise,
I may enjoy my drive to work every day now. I certainly will enjoy
the 30 mpg over the TE's 20!
Later this week we will tackle the right rear wheel bearing on the TE
along with the spring link bearing (the left one had no boots left,
seriously corroded, right side makes at least as much noise).
Probably need to replace the right front wheel bearing too, its
thumping, I think. Could be just the rear, but I doubt it.
