I had my '85 190D up to about 95mph, it had more to do and was handling fine, I
ran out of road and nerve about the police. I expect a 124 would handle just
fine at 100+

I wouldn’t drive that fast in anything other than a big heavy 7 series BMW or
an S Class Mercedes. At 100, my car just cruises along. Seriously, it lots
more to go and it tracks and drives great. Of course, it weighs 5000 lbs and
has a pretty wide stance and good tires.
My brother had a 1973 Pontiac Grand Am (with the 400 4 barrel engine) and we
drove it faster than 120 mph. That was a scary ride. It wallowed and pitched
and awe, as soon as the front end started to raise up, my brother finally
backed off.

and only during the day. But, I do get up to 90-95 mph and even 100 when I am
out on those stretches of road. I still haven't tried to top out the BMW. I
am not sure what the top speed is, I would guess that there is a computer limit
of 120 something, but I have heard claims of 140's in these cars.

Well, if I were planning to drive across a desolate stretch of Kansas at
120 mph I would definitely invest in a major brand of tire, and pay more for
the very reason that Donald mentioned.
