Not sure where the figures about the automatic 16 Valve came from, but I can attest that the automatic could not come close to the manual 5 speed one on one.

The automatic was measurably slower.........

I've looked in Nitske's book and there is no reference to the auto 16V performance.......

The engine developed 185 hp at 6200 rpm and a torque of 181 lb-ft at 4500 rpm, giving the car acceleration from standstill to 62 mph in 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 147 mph. The engine was combined with an automatic five-speed transmission tuned for sporty performance. Self-leveling suspension on the
rear axle was a standard feature.
