Not with a Sirius antenna. I installed a GPS antenna inside the instrument
cluster binnacle in my Audi. There was only particleboard and vinyl over the
antenna (no metal) and it worked fine. Acquired plenty of satellites.
On my W124 I installed the GPS antenna below the rear deck, next to the
speaker. Again, no metal between the antenna and the sky, and it's totally
invisible. Note - I have not yet hooked up the antenna so I can't verify
that it works, but it *should*.
So you might want to consider hiding it. Easier to install and wire, no
worries about losing it in a carwash or ice storm, less likely for a thief
to target your car...
