Bought my first Mercedes - a 9 year old 1973 280 - from a shady Iranian, at night in a shady neighborhood near Tysons Corner, VA. We literally drove it down the street 100 yards, turned around and returned to the house, after which I wrote Mr. "Tony" Alami a check for $4700. Those were the days before pre-purchase inspections were invented.
In the year we owned this wonderful car we had to repair the transmission and vacuum locks (for about $1500), but sold the car for $4850 to a dip. heading overseas. Not a bad intro to the marque...
