Well, the repair estimate just by walking around the car and using "used, reconditioned, or aftermarket" parts came to $14,500, so I guess it is worse than it looks. Apparently an offset crash like that is particularly difficult to straighten out.
On the upside, I settled with the insurance company on Friday after more contretemps than should be necessary, and purchased a one-owner 2009 Bluetec with the same mileage for less than I got for my 2007.
