I've got a kinda-plan to transplant the engine from my '98 TDI thats dying of
tinworm into a Suzuki Vitara or Sidekick. As part of the plan I'm contemplating
a mechanical IP swap. With that it'd need exactly 1 wire to run as the fuel
shut off is electronic. Worst case you could pull the plunger and cap it, put
in a mechanical valve to shut it off.
I'm leaning toward that plan instead of using the computer controlled to get
away from having to transplant the dash cluster...

After a big EMP event, my 82 SD will be one of the few cars that will still
run. The radio and HVAC will be fused but it will start (I may need to
trick the glow timer) and run, at least until the battery dies.. I'm not
sure I'd want to live through that scenario; instant return to the 19th
century without the required know-how.
