Here's a good rule of thumb concerning oil additives:
Don't pour anything but motor oil into your crankcase.
Excessive oil consumption (not leaking) indicates the need for engine
work. Nothing that comes in a can or bottle will restore your internal
engine components to acceptable tolerances. Many products do more harm
than good. Risolene removes the paint from Nissan 280 ZX oil pans and
deposits it on the oil pump screen where it resembles ZZ Top style
beard for example.
