The quantity of fuel ejected from the injection line with each cycle of
the injection pump is TINY. If you agree that the engine consumes maybe
a liter an hour at idle. In an hour there are maybe 72,000 injection
pulses from a 240D idling at 600 rpm. That's 1000 ml/72,000 pulses or
about 0.01 ml with each injection pulse. Even if you double or treble
that amount, that's a TINY amount of fuel.
