Do what I used to do in Wisconsin.  I installed one of those 24 hour lighting 
timers in the front of my garage that turned on my block heater around 4:00 am. 
 Walk out, unplug and coil up, close the hood, drive away with heated cabin.

Although I can relate to the complexity of having to plug in a block heater 
while corralling a couple of youngsters in car seats, etc.
