Things may have changed, but when I needed battery service they gave me
reconditioned ones. I know they are supposed to be the same but I found
they don't last very long.

You can do that, but you might also want to think about buying some
Ridgids from Home Depot, supposedly they have a "lifetime" guarantee
on batteries. MIne are still going well after 2 or 3 years, so have
not needed to try the guarantee, but there it is.

Has anyone replaced the cells in the 18 volt Dewalt tool batteries?
These are the older ones, not the newer, small, "20 volt" Li-Ion. I
think mine have NiCad.
I think Curt one day expounded on the different niCads available and
which ones self discharge the worst, or which ones to buy.
I am wondering if there is anything to be gained by trying to replace
the cells, or if I should just bite the bullet and buy new batteries
for $100. I had planned to just buy a new drill kit, with 2
batteries and a charger when this day arrived. But those seem to
have disappeared, and the "20volt" has taken its place. I can pay
$100 for 2 new batteries, but I don't like that option.
