Try taking the switch out. The brake fluid probably won't leak. See if the switch will cause the light to light up with it connected and grounded to the cylinder or other good ground. If so then the switch is bad. If not then the piston is probably not centered. Try to get a look into the hole and see if you see a groove and try to gently pry it into a centered position without buggering it up at the edges.

Mind you this is all conjecture as I have never had one of these so I have no idea if this is the way the thing works, just thinking that's the way I would engineer such a system and the way I would try and figure out the problem if I had one.

His car's master cylinder has an extra sensor for the front-rear circuit's pressure differential, and that is the warning light.
