Hey Caleb,
This guy has been a 124 enthusiast since the early 90s/ He likes these cars and enjoys working on them. When I spoke with hum he seemed like he was very knowledgeable. I have been totally impressed with this shop - something I seldom do. I don't usually trust my cars to anyone but me but these guys have proven to be. I started working with these guys in the early 70s when I still drove gas MBs (how foolish) ! and they always took care of me and gave me as many breaks as possible on the price of parts (I was still doing all of my own work back then). They said they were as certain as they could be without disassembling anything. I had the dealer put fresh diff fluid in for me at 80K Mi ago and I watch the garage floor for any spots and it doesn't leak. Actually I have heard a roar from the rear for a while but I thought it was a tire coming apart (which it was) but they said it sounds like the LR bearing is in the early stage of failing. After I get out of the hospital I hope to give it a good listed now that it has 2 new tires on the rear.
But thanks for giving it some thought -

I'm assuming he checked to make sure there was oil in the diff, or that the
noise was not the diff?

Hi Gang,
I sent this a few days ago but it never appeared - must be lost in cyberspace I
guess?
Anyway, I am getting a whine at highway speeds (above 45mph) and my indy said
they thought it was the rear wheel bearings which would run around $700.
That's a lot too spend on a 26 year old car. But it is a MB diesel so I am
considering it. Before I allow the indy to work on it I was wondering how big
a job it is? Didn't see anything in the Archives so here I am.

What dya say gang?
