If its not one thing its another.
For the final step of selling my 240D my wife informed me we couldn't sell it
with the driver's door handle being sticky. I'd gotten good at slapping it back
but she decided since we like the people we're selling to it'd need to be
fixed. Easy peasy, no problem there. I even tried to do the check strap (which
I'd been putting off) but couldn't drive the pin out and besides I was cold.
So we're about to deliver the car. I'll drive the 240D and my wife will
follow in the 190D but she can't get the seat to go forward (electric seat).
The same seat which worked fine for me when I was troubleshooting the broken
spring earlier. I can get it to go forward but then once its too far forward
(oops) I can't get it to go back.
  Well crap.
So after a good long time fiddling I give up and go into the switch. Well
first you have to take the door apart. Whomever decided to change how the door
goes together should be shot. Anybody go a light tan W201 driver's side door
inside? I broke all the clips but 2. Every other door I've ever had off pulled
out.
Hint W201 doors come apart *up*.
Then when I opened the switch little balls and bits fell everywhere and I was
too cold and frustrated to get 'em back in. I just worked 'em in long enough to
get the seat semi comfortable (semi, its too far back) and then threw 'em all
in the map pocket so the seat wouldn't be flopping around like a drunk when I
tried to put the switch back.

So tomorrow Rusty is going to get a call from me and my Visa company will
surely love me again. Fortunately I've got next Monday off with no honey-do
projects....

Its really surprising whats available new. I was looking the dash piece around
the center vents for my 190D on eBay when I noticed Rusty had 'em for something
like $60. The ones on eBay were running around $40 and I figure they're just as
brittle as what I have...

Err? Sorry. I didn't expect to find such a body part from Rusty. And
I
didn't even think about going to the dealer. Last part I bought from a
dealer for Old Paint, was one of those pins that holds the front brake
pads
in place. That stupid pin cost $20+.

Thanks for the info. I'll just order a new one.

Obviously neither of you has ever worked the fryolator at a McDs. When you load
the thing you scoop the stuff out of a tub with a paddle. In other words
McDonalds fryer "oil" is solid at room temperature or at least it was in '95
when I spent one miserable month working there. When its bad it goes into a
dumpster like contraption out back thats full of solid grease.
I don't know if you could use it a bio-diesel setup though...

I have a '28 Farmall Regular which has steel pistons. If I can ever get the
dammed things out I'll take a picture. I'm sort of half planning this summer to
run a bead of weld across each one and whack it with a chisel so they shatter.
The tractor sat for 40 years after all...
