Amazing. The stockholders are finally going to eat the mistakes of the utility.

NUCLEARScana gave governor's campaign cash as project founderedPublished:

In the weeks before Scana Corp. halted construction on a major nuclear
reactor project, a decision that has cost its South Carolina customers
nearly $2 billion, the utility gave tens of thousands of dollars to the
campaign of Gov. Henry McMaster (R).

McMaster took in about $115,000 from more than 250 contributors affiliated
with Scana, according to an analysis by *The State* newspaper.

The revelation is potentially damaging for the governor, who is facing a
threat within his own party from Catherine Templeton, who is trying to tie
McMaster to the closure of the V.C. Summer expansion.

"This is certainly really lousy timing and potentially embarrassing for
McMaster," said Karen Kedrowski, a Winthrop University professor of
political science. "He is going to have to answer some questions about
whether or not he was a party to this, or whether there was something to be
done to prevent this."

McMaster has already spoken out about the utility's failures at V.C.
Summer, and his campaign consultant said most of the contributions were
from Scana employees, rather than top executives (Jamie Self, Columbia

Meanwhile, Scana and its subsidiary South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. will
soon head to court over allegations that the companies charged customers
unfairly for the failed nuclear project.

A lawsuit filed Monday says the companies misled customers and state
regulators about problems during construction of the V.C. Summer plant
before shutting down the project.

"This is the kind of case that is born out of huge anger and frustration of
the people," said Ed Bell, a Georgetown, S.C., lawyer who filed the suit on
behalf of 10 Fairfield County residents. "Our phones are ringing off the
hook" (Sammy Fretwell, Columbia [S.C.] *State*
