The first one was legal. Perp was still holding a gun when Denny/Shatner fired his last shot. 2nd one was just plain old aggravated assault with a deadly, but he knew nobody would prosecute him for it. They might prosecute him for carrying in the secure areas of a jail, I don't think it's legal for private attorneys to do that in any state.
