The 560SL takes its ground through the speedometer, and not the big plug, unlike the older cars. It's easy to blow the trace inside the speedo head if you flash the clock power line to one of the metal shells, for example. Then everything is messed up. Fortunately it is an easy fix, if you are handy. Don't know if this applies, or not.
