I have been communicating with this woman who has this SL in her garage.  Apparently she or someone bought it for a boychild, who wrecked it without having any insurance.  She had it listed for $2k as a running but not driving wreck.  We chatted back and forth then she went dark.  The other day she asks if I still want it, she wants it gone.  I offer $300 (I don't know why but I did, maybe for spares or something on this SL I got), hear nothing back then she says her boy will take $1k.  I'm sure, but not from me. I'll ping her again tomorrow, she can lay the law down to the boy, I will take a little road trip and go get it

Are you still interested? I really want it out my garage

I have been thinking about the car but I really can't see it at $2k. I just bought a gorgeous 95 SL600 for $2300 <https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1855122984563696/#>, needs a bit of suspension work but I ordered the parts, $160 <https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1855122984563696/#>, it will be great once I get them on this week. I bought another one a few months ago, a 99 E300 diesel for $500 <https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1855122984563696/#>, was barely running -- an afternoon spent cleaning the EGR valve has it running like a demon now. I don't want to insult you, but a wrecked Benz like that is basically scrap, even though otherwise it is in great shape, and I'm sure it was your baby and it is hard to part with. I'd come get it and give you maybe $300 <https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1855122984563696/#> for it, it would be a parts car for me as it looks like fixing it up would cost a lot more than it would be worth as these things are readily available now for pretty cheap. Again, I really don't want to insult you but this is kinda the reality of these cars, most people just don't want to fool with them once they are past a certain age, and it costs a lot of time and money. Again, I am not meaing to insult you, I appreciate you keeping in touch, let me know what you want to do, I could come get it but I just can't put much into it given the condition. I could get down there Saturday, maybe sooner, let me know what you want to do

We are getting rid of it for the engine/ transmission and that’s basically that’s it. It only has 45,000 miles on it. I never drove it so it’s not my baby . I’m tired of it sitting in my space and want it gone. Bought for a kid they wrecked it before the insurance kicked in so here it sits

So sorry it got wrecked. What do you want to do?

What Floyd said. Without pictures it’s tough to say, but these Mustang

on the Bay of Fleas mislead you.

Certainly less than $1,000 based on your description. Would probably cost more
to make it whole again unless you were doing the work yourself.

Sounds like a possible running beater like that, if it can be made a runner

A friend wants to get rid of his 92 500SL. It has some pretty good nose damage
that made the passenger side airbag deploy, messed up the chin and tweaked the
nose/hood. Condenser and radiator are out of the car. Living in the trunk
now. Headlights are back there as well.

White on ash leather. Tan soft top that has leaking, but functional pistons,
so it does deploy the soft top. Two small age related tears at the folds on
driver side. Seats are comfortable, but passenger has stitching fail in the
middle front leading edge. Must be some related wear on the driver seat that I
am not recalling. Driver seat belt does not retract. Air bag deployment put a
starburst on the windscreen. No leaks into cabin or trunk, as I could find no
water or moisture (and it has been raining to make Noah look like a piker)

California car (just titled in WA 4/18). The tires are fresh from April, and
the wheels look fine. Has 87k on the clock and does drive enough to get you on
a transport and off again. I took it around the block, and it handles well at
low speed. Seems a fine car if you are into the R129. No insurance, so title
is still clean. His mechanic has put new rotors and pads up front. He
replaced the oil pan and tried to adjust/massage the damage caused by the
driver running over a road divider.

What is this car worth? My friend wants to just sell it because he would
rather put his cash toward not fixing the SL. If it were KBB or something, I
would guess it was a horribly low #4, due to damage. Not yet scrap or parts.

I looked on the Bay of Fleas, but those are priced quite high and of better
condition. He has no time or desire to do the parting out work. I figured he
could make an easy $2k selling off the wheels, tops, headlights, and
catastrophic converter. Maybe another 2K for the engine. Is the car worth $4k
as it sits? I am sure somebody with bodywork ability, could bring the car to
$7K.

Not mine, no interest. Just want to be able to provide him with a more
educated opinion so he can price it well enough to get into something else. I
did not pry as to what that might be. Probably another flashy old thing he
does not insure.
