Just to be precise, the 4 cylnider motor in a 123 230TE is a M102, the M103 is it's bigger 6 cylinder brother with the KE-jetronic fuel delivery system (and was never fitted to the 123 chasis). Also the M102 in the 201 chassis is KE injected while the M102 in the 123 is K-jetronic, so there are going to be difficulties in putting a later M102 into a 123. However it is possible to fit a diesel out of a wreck and put it into a nice station wagen body, that is what you pay the money for in the old merc market good bodies.

For Andrews info, the 103 in a 123 chassis is rare in the US.  And they
are kind of neat since if you need a new engine there are plenty of
190's around with that engine.
