I was driving the SL600 on Saturday, it was running really well. Stopped
at a light and as it dropped to idle it was barely running, misfiring,
smoking. I managed to limp along until I got a couple miles to where I
was going. Shut it off and it ran fine. I need to tear into the
wiring, it has likely all gone to shite on the throttle bodies and
ignition bits and whatever else. Just have not take the time to check it
out.
There is a Russian guy in NJ who rebuilds all this stuff too, esp on the
600s. He has lots of vids on his web site about working on them, but
not the actual rebuilding/resoldering.

uh oh.... Those had the same self destructing wire insulation as
the rest of the car. When I took the original off the E320, and
opened it up, the insulation fell out like dust.
I also put in a used one, and it worked long enough to unload the car.
I dislike vergassers for this and a whole host of other reasons.
They stink too.
I had thoughts of trying to rewire the thing until i saw the number of
tiny wires and the non-existent space to work in. I threw it out.

Throttle body was a used take off. Does this involve busting out the
soldering iron? I am getting good at that after soldering up a GPS radio
tracker for my kids rocket, so I have all the kit.
