VW only needs a cable, usually referred to as VCDS, the one I bought
for my '98 Jetta paid for itself several times over. My '15 Jetta has
CANBUS and wants a different cable which I probably should have bought
in the first place (its backward compatible) but I "saved" a little
money by buying the older type...

It did show that 3 shift solenoids had errors and I cleared those but I
guess there are more deeper in there. The PO told me it had a pump code
(from the fancy computer) which is why he thought that was the offending
element of the tranny troubles.
So if I don't clear the codes the tranny will still act wonky even if
the leaky connector is the issue (assuming I get everything cleaned up)?
Maybe I need to think about getting a fancy computer...
