We have had a Kenmore (LG, I think) side-by-side for about 13 years. Only
problem to date is the threads striped in the yoke for the ice dispenser auger.
This was (apparently) later redesigned with a hardened nut vs threads cut into
soft metal stamping. I couldn't find a replacement for just the part so bought
a used auger motor assembly on eBay and swapped the yoke (after cutting the old
one off with Dremel tool).

While on active duty (pre Internet) we moved every few years so we bought Sears
appliances because of nation-wide parts availability. It's all online now but
Sears still has a decent parts site and I often find a part cheaper elsewhere
using the part number from the sears site.

We bought a Samsung side-by-side maybe 8 or 10 years ago. Control board died
almost immediately, was replaced under warranty. Water dispenser died a couple
years later. Would not dispense water if the filter was installed, but would
dispense with no filter.

Ice maker died shortly after, same issue as yours: Big chunk would form in the
bottom then nothing would come out and then the plastic cracked. I pulled it
out so we have more space in the freezer.

Other than that, the freezer and refrigerator work just fine.
