The '02 Odyssey transmission failed at around 190K miles, and the '06
Element at 213K miles. In particular the '02 Odyssey was known for
transmission issues and my buddy who is a Honda mechanic said it was
remarkable that mine lasted as long as it did.

Honda transmissions require a specific type of fluid, the typical Dexron
or even Mobil 1 ATF are not recommended. Some say to only use the
genuine Honda fluid purchased from a dealer, though there are
aftermarket brands (Castrol, etc) which offer formulations they claim
are compatible.

The transmission filter is not replacable without removing the
transmission and opening the case, which obviously nobody ever does
unless they are rebuilding it anyway.
