My ML350 (3.7 V6) is good for 18-20 mpg, don't know what that corresponds to with Jill driving. Liftgate not tailgate, feels short and Jeeplike, but is supposed to have pretty good offroad capability for a 'luxury SUV'. With the right tires and 4Matic it would have done well on your ice mountain.
