Flying home from Tokyo direct to Boston the flight leaves at like 4:10pm and
arrives (13 hours later) at like 4:05pm the same day...

whenever I went because of the “loss” of a day going over. Worse than that,
trying to interact with people back in the States was even worse, like “OK,
it’s 12 noon here so it’s midnight last night at home.” That leaves a fairly
small window of time to call home and not be disruptive, like at breakfast
(yesterday’s dinner time) or dinner (same day’s breakfast time).
However, coming back was even worse. If I came back from say Singapore, I would
leave at 8:00 am local time and arrive back in Chicago 19 hours later at 2:00
PM the same day in the afternoon.
Talk about messing up your mind. It certainly did.
