Yeah dig a trench around the perimeter of the building, put in some gravel then a drain pipe with gravel over, then connect it to a drain going out to your retention pond or ditch or whatever.  Kind of a reverse septic field.  You want to get the water from around the building.

Probably, and then you wouldn’t have an open ditch to deal with.

You think that would be better than just cutting a drainage ditch to let it
drain?

Get a roll of drain tubing and rent a Ditch Witch for a day. Run a drain tile
from that area out to the road or to the pond.

I was talking the neighbor the other day and he said he didn’t understand why
they didn’t build the pond in that area behind the shop where all the water
runs too instead of at the opposite end of the property. I should look into
building another one. I wonder how much that costs.

The levees themselves are fine. It’s just the water that runs off the roof of
the shop collects between the shop and the levee and gets up to the level of
the concrete pad then starts coming in. I went back out last night and the
water is all run out for the most part. Will air it out today.

Hope you get that figured out, sounds pretty miserable. Are you allowed to
dig out a big pond / drainage area? I'd think about that, create a nice
big pond, and then all that dirt that is dug out can be used to build up
your levees and such to keep water out of the shop. May need to use some
ancient Egyptian technology to get your elevations correct.

Not a solution to flooding, but have you thought about pouring a concrete
floor in the shop?

Went out to the shop just now and it’s got an inch or 2 of water in it. On
the back side of the shop there is an overhead door that I never use. In
the pasture behind that the water from the back average drains in that area
toward the road. There is some dirt work done next to the shop, basically
they built a small levee behind the barn and shop to direct water toward
the road instead of in the shop. The problem is there is a space about 5
feet wide between the backside of this and the shop that water will pond
and if it gets up to the door will come in. I have not seen it this bad
before but I have been meaning to see if I can get an angle blade for the
tractor and cut a ditch at the end of the shop to let this water drain out
toward the road instead of getting deep enough to get into the shop. The
closed overhead door on the opposite wall was holding water in so I cracked
it open to allow it just flow out the other side. I need to solve this
problem ASAP so this does not continue to happen. Water also runs thru the
barn which I would like to stop. It also has this levee behind and to the
high side of the barn but still gets water thru it. I think it’s runoff
from the roof. For that I’m probably going to need to haul in some dirt to
build up the level of the dirt floor inside the shop so water does not come
in. After it does, it’s literally a mud pit in there.
