Vintage Audio has far more than it’s share of BS, I personally think much of the “high end” equipment is high end because it costs so much, and much of it is pure fashion (or more bluntly, affectation, like using a monocle or wearing spats).
This attitude is also a problem in the “hot rod” arena, where people tend to argue endlessly about the work they have done for them. Actual hands on hot rod guys are pretty rare now, and average 75 in age. All part of the fun, I guess. I’ve still got the stuff I bought in 1982, and after the umpteeth repair on the amp, I’ve replaced it. Bad design (up side down main board runs WAY too hot). Sonically it’s as good as anything out there, but then I don’t believe there are all that many differences in audio equipment made past 1974 or so. I do all my own electronics work, although I probably know just enough about it to be dangerous. I’m becoming an old grump.
