I have been using a 10 or more year old Sony receiver that does not support 4K.
I have had a 4K tv for a while but since receiver did not support that I was
really online seeing 1080. I bought a cheap Onkyo receiver that was about $500
from Amazon and have had it a while but have not hooked it up. It has a ton of
HDMI inputs and seemed to have a lot of features. I also noticed for some
reason suddenly the last couple of days I have zero sound out of the front main
channels. Perhaps the receiver failed, I don’t know. Or wires loose to the
speaker. Anyway, it was raining today so I just hooked it up and boy what
difference both in sound and picture. I so not sure if my old receiver was just
way out dated as far as the surround sound goes, or if it was failing but the
sound is a huge difference. I am just running the 25 year old speakers that
came with my old rack system that was a first gen surround sound receiver. The
wife also had one just like mine so we ended up with 2 sets of speakers so I
use the 2nd set of back speakers to achieve 7.1. Works fine for me but perhaps
one day I will upgrade the speakers.
