What I heard was pretty classic sounds of hydraulic valve lifters collapsed, which likely would fit this instance, since the pan was off and all the oil galleys would have had a chance to drain down completely. Since the top end noise went away after a short drive, which would have pumped the lifters back full of fresh oil.. I wager that is what it was.. You should be able to drive it like a rented mule from now on.. Enjoy the ride.
