Thanks for the very prompt replies. But what are 'shift point marks'? Is this related to auto transmissions? My wagon is a manual.

I'm pretty sure my brother's erstwhile '84 300D euro was fitted with a 280E speedo when it was brought into the US. It was dead accurate but the shift point marks were of course way off. Tom
