yes, that has all long been my suspicion but, again, as i believe in oil changes ,it doesn't bother me either way. i use whatever i have around that is of original design

It is NOT anywhere near as good a filter material as proper wound cord (for the bypass portion) or synthetic paper (for the full flow filter portion). Cheapness reigns! Gin trash is actually finer filtering than most "paper" filters, but also clogs faster, leading to unfiltered oil circulating around the engine.
