That is exactly what I told him to do first, fill with some good
premium, pour in a bottle of Techron, and drive it hard and fast. He
bought me lunch for that advice! I did not detect the 6-7 shift though,
maybe I did not go fast enough.

If the car has been sitting, the injectors are probably spitting instead
of atomizing. The cheapest possible cure I can think of is a bottle of
Chevron Tecron and an Italian Tune-up.
