.Everyone I know who has owned one of these had the transmission suddenly and unexpectedly fail, with repair costs over the worth of the vehicle. I know of about 5 that this has happened to with Taurus (es?) and Sables.... What's really weird is that it always seems to be exacty at or very very close to 150k miles. I heard there was a factory recall for the manufacturing defect, but it affected a narrower year range of cars than were affected by the problem. This car is a perfect example- it has just had the engine and transmission professionally rebuit, which a 15 year old car should not need (unless it really has 600k miles, but I think that is a typo). Given that this one was rebuilt 2k miles ago, I bet is has 152k miles! For less then the cost of the rebuild they could have bought a mercedes that would last a lifetime.
